BETHESDA, Md., March 12, 2026 — Former Attorney General Doug Gansler, who served as Attorney General of Maryland from 2007 to 2015, today announced his endorsement of Drew Morrison in the race for District 1 on the Montgomery County Council. Gansler is a long-time resident of District 1.

“As someone who grew up here, attended Chevy Chase Elementary School, and served the people of Montgomery County as State’s Attorney and Attorney General, I know that our community needs strong leadership on creating jobs, ensuring our schools truly deliver, and keeping our communities safe. That’s why I am proud to endorse Drew Morrison for the District 1 Council seat. Drew has the background, perspective, and record of accomplishment to be effective on the Council from Day One,” said Gansler.

Morrison’s policy platform focuses on five key areas: growing good-paying jobs, creating a more affordable County, ensuring schools deliver for every student, building the infrastructure the community needs, and protecting the environment and leading on clean energy. He shared how Attorney General Gansler’s endorsement highlights their shared vision for protecting residents and addressing critical safety needs.

“Doug Gansler knows how to fight for the rights of Montgomery County residents because he did so as Attorney General and State’s Attorney,” Morrison said. “I am grateful for Doug’s support, especially in this moment as the unlawful Trump Administration has put immigrants, federal workers, and the most vulnerable in our community in its crosshairs, and we need a strong focus on public safety in our community. District 1 needs a Councilmember who understands the importance of upholding the law and using every legal tool available to protect our people.”

Gansler served two terms as Attorney General of Maryland from 2007-2015. He was the first statewide elected official to support marriage equality, fought to strengthen gun control laws, and recovered more than a billion dollars to protect Marylanders from healthcare scams, mortgage fraud, and other abuses of consumers. He served as State’s Attorney for Montgomery County from 1999-2007, during which he helped launch the County’s domestic violence docket, Drug Court, Gang Prosecution Unit, Elder Abuse Task Force, and an Internet Crime Unit.

Drew Morrison, candidate for District 1 Councilmember, grew up in Bethesda. As a member of former District 1 Councilmember Roger Berliner’s staff, Morrison advanced major policy reforms including creating the Montgomery County Green Bank and implementing the Vision Zero traffic safety program in Montgomery County. He is a transportation and planning expert, having led infrastructure projects throughout the region. Since 2023, Morrison has served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Maryland Department of Transportation. He graduated from Yale University with a degree in Economics and Political Science, with a concentration in Urban Studies, before obtaining his master’s degrees in City Planning and Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
